There are very few blokes in the North East who possess an FA Cup winners medal, especially one for playing for their beloved local team, but Micky Horswill is one. "The Tiddler”, as he has become known on the Legends (thanks to Bernie), was just 19 years old when Sunderland began their incredible Cup run of 73, a cup run in which Micky played every game, turning 20 just days before that legendary FA Cup final where David slew Goliath, the ultimate day of the underdog, the day of Sunderland 1 Leeds 0.
Micky collapsed by the side of the pitch at the end of the game having ran his heart out for 90 minutes in a performance that has been likened to Alan Balls in the 66 World Cup Final. “To be honest I can’t remember a great deal about that day, other than it was the best day of my life”. Micky's career then took him to Manchester where he played for City and shared an apartment with the legendary George Best, the rest is history, again …………………..that no-one can remember.
