Century Radio listeners are being challenged to get out into the great outdoors and take part in a 10km run at Alnwick Castle to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The event will return for the fourth successive year to Alnwick Castle on Sunday 7th September.

Run 10k for Cancer Research UK, supported by Tesco, is a series of 41 events held at stunning venues throughout the UK this autumn. This year the charity is hoping that 50,000 men and women will come together to raise just over £5 million to help beat cancer.

The Alnwick Castle 10k event will see over 1000 people taking part to raise more than £50,000 for the charity. The run starts and finishes in the beautiful river-side pastures at the foot of the castle walls and the course takes in the tranquil grandeur of Hulne Park. As a special bonus this year, runners are to be offered free entry to the Castle on the day of the event and their friends and family will be offered generous discounts on entry prices.

Cancer Research UK spends millions of pounds every year on research in the north east. Much of this goes to support the pioneering work of doctors and scientists at the Northern Institute for Cancer Research in Newcastle. Researchers at the Institute specialise in translating laboratory discoveries across the UK into effective new treatments for cancer patients.

Andy Wilson added: “I am really delighted that Century Radio are our media partners for this event and I really hope that many of the station’s listeners will rise to the challenge of taking part in Run 10k. It is the perfect opportunity to get into the great outdoors and raise money to help beat cancer. We need local people to take part and raise money to help us continue our life-saving work. This is why we’re urging everyone to come and join us.

“With some training, running 10km is an achievable challenge for most people, and it is perfectly acceptable to ‘run a bit, walk a bit’ at our events. Why don’t you challenge your friends and family to take part with you?"
